Status: Design Proposal
The design proposal for Old Young’s Distillery is on a 50,000m² site next to the Swan River. It includes an expandable gin distillation facility, a hospitality venue, visitor accommodation, and flexible cellaring space, all set within a landscape of native plants, a juniper orchard, botanical gardens, and vineyards
OLD YOUNG’S DISTILLERY
The concept of ‘shifting planes’ with borrowed landscape elements shaping the arrangement of both active and passive spaces.
In section, these shifting planes create a delicately proportioned cantilever between two key architectural elements: the ground plane and the roof.
CONTRIBUTIONS
Design Competition
As the project lead for the design competition, I coordinated the development and execution of the design concept, massing and articulation. I also handled the documentation, which included preparing a competition presentation, boards, a model, and a drawing set.
I led client meetings and consultant workshops, combining input from landscape architecture, interior design, and architecture into the proposed scheme.
I traveled to the site for analysis and initial client workshops/meetings, and I also conducted the final presentation of our scheme.
